Panorama Pictures

Okay, my dad is looking for a free program were you can stitch pictures together like with the panorama functions. He wants to take multiple pictures and put them altogether in to one huge image. The size will in the end be 0.5 Meter high x 1.5 wide. Is there any of you geniuses that can help out with finding a program were he can try to mix em together?
