Clan Practice: A time where clan members mass together on a server to try out tactics, the rush, fight together and play side games (zombies, races etc).
Aims
-gel together without the pressure of other clans
-rehearse set pieces
-allow others to lead practice to test plays
-bring up new match leaders
-create a time for new trials to play with us
-ultimately play 8v8 against ourselves
Just throwing this out there to see if its still valid today.
History: In clans of old we had exactly this, a practice day once a week where we all got together and played on our own and worked stuff out. No one had to come, but those that wanted to stay keen and in the squad obviously would be more regular than others.
It helped in many ways, as well as train us in the rush and setting up defence, anyone that thought they had a good strategy could lead the practice a while to test it out, people that wanted to try match leading could do it without the pressure of another clan, also we invited trialists in on practice days to see if they could play well and were cool enough to hang out with and then if there was time, play some fun games or put on a custom skills map.
From time to time we did play pcw or ladder matches in practice slots, especially if the other clan didnt have a slot/server of their own but generally weekends are best to play the actual clanwars, for turnout reasons.
Fact: There is a gap between coming top of a public server and being just average in competitive clan play. Â*Public servers rarely have an organised group with their mind on a single task, instead youre shooting individuals in a state of shared chaos and taking advantage of their lack of comms in many semi random encounters.
Clanwars are very different and do not limit your skill level to only shooting random chaos heads on pubs. Theyre fast, theyre focussed and since team stacking on pubs is considered unsportsmanlike then to prepare for it practice is what we did.
But Is there still a want/need/value for a weekly practice in todays clans? Â*Can we do without practice? Â*Are there any alternatives?
Discuss?
