You'll be able to fly an AC130? NICE!
You'll be able to fly an AC130? NICE!
No, you won't... It will be circling around the map (or a flag) controlled by an autopilot with 2 human players occupying the gunner seats. Don't believe me ? Look at bottom left corner of the last screenshot. Both seats have a bullet next to the player's name, bullet means gunner. A pilot or a driver has an arrow next to their name, like this ">".
I think it will be like "Air Raid" from BF 1943 or the Artillery from BF Modern Combat (or if you never played them: Similar to the UAV in BC2 ): You take a flag that has a remote controller over an AC 130 and then then use it to shoot from it for a minute or so. Then it will have a cooldown of a few minutes before it can be used again. Check this image (http://imageshack.us/photo/my-images/209/bryanbadundae.jpg/), looks like the "Army base" has a plane next to the name, AC 130 ? But this also means that every idiot and their mom will rush to that flag at the start of EVERY round...
You wonder why they decided to make it autopilot ? Well do not, because fairly simple: Noobs... Too many douchebags would take that huge plane and just crash into a mountain, a building or a light post. Or they would strap it with C4 and go jihad everyone... Conclusion: It would be a waste of a vehicle. DICE knows that percentage of people who crash jets and helicopters is higher than the percentage of people who are actually competent enough to hold them in the air for longer than a minute and since the highest efficiency is only achieved while doing the so-called "Pylon turn" (flying in circles while tilted to the side) it is pretty obvious why they made this design decision.
I don't like it but I would hate it even more when some noob is doing barrel rolls while I'm gunning. this will balance things out a bit. Although it's not what Battlefield is about because in BF Desert Combat mod you could control an AC 130 without problems and in even in BF Vietnam you were controlling a AC 47 Spooky as well but not in BF3...

Oh that suck. Flying it made it soooo cool, now it's just like a COD killstreak.
