View Full Version : Headset
Need new headset.
Interested in 5.1 or 7.1 system. Is there really big difference in software based 7.1 and 5.1 systems and those which have really 4-5 smaller speakers in ear cup? Is that difference important to games?
If that difference is not important i would like to take wireless headset like Razer Chimera 5.1 or Logitec G930.
If there is sense in taking with real drivers then .... probably wired model because of price and autonomy of work.
So, want your opinion about headset you have and some links ;)
7.1 and 5.1 virtual is just a marketing gimmick, wont hear the slightest difference vs stereo (after all the physical headphones are stereo). As for Headphones with tiny speakers i dont know, never tryed them. HIGHLY doubt there worth the money. I have a pair of stereo's and i can hear direction just fine, pretty much all headphones are stereo for a reason, no need or benefit from anything higher.
If you go wireless , the Logitech ones are superb. Only downside is ofcourse battery's. Connection problems with the wireless ones are not really existant. Unless you go walking in the park and expect to keep a connection :P

Harman AKG GHS-1
Personally I'm very happy with my headset from AKG. It's lightweight and comfortable with soft cushioned earpads that rest on the ears instead of covering them so be aware of that difference with other headsets. The 5.1 sound is great. It has a small mic boom that doesn't cover half your face and from what they tell me my voice is clear and noise-free on TS.
I did some research when I wanted to replace my 15 euro Logitech headset for something I could use voice detection with and these got some very positive reviews. I also didn't really want to spend more then 100 euro on a headset and these were around 70-80 euro. ÂÂ* ÂÂ*

I have the Byerdynamic DT-440 and seperate clipon mic. from the steelseries ... in one word .... perfect positioning and sound
Thats actually 4 words Janbo :D
Could you link me to the Steelseries clipmic's? i still need a clip mic and i know steelseries always makes good quality stuff. Have never seen clip mic's of them though.
Well, if there is no big difference it will be wireless. I am sick of damn cables around my chair.

Hmm looks nice indeed. Unfortunately then dont sell it anymore. But no worries i'll look for other clipmic alternatives, Zalman has one i saw.
And yea, hearing you on teamspeak i whouldnt have guessed you were using a clipmic, sound quality is very good. I thought about getting a soundcard, but i dont know how big the impact will be. I use USB 2.0 speakers, so only my headphones could utilize the Soundcard.
Got Logitec G930. Now i can talk like alien or mice like RPG.
If you have a clipon-microphone, you can sleeve the two cables (mic and headphone) together

Gisse, you have to be careful in what you say here, or my wife will kill you! She says that "each time you hang out with Gisse, you need to get this-or-that, because Gisse has it and it's sooooo coool" :)
Of course, I can only remind her of HER shoppings and then I'm free to buy stuff :)
