View Full Version : AMD R9/R7 Series Graphics
Dear users,
25 september will be the day AMD is going to release the new 9000 series video cards.
So far it has only been wild talking about what it could pack.
Yesterday a 3dmark slide leaked showing that it outperforms the GTX titan.

Can't wait to get those in my system.
Also 7000 series cards are dropping in price like hell these day's.
You can pick up a 7990 for €469, that is €150,- cheaper then the GTX780 but outperforms a GTX titan that will cost you €900 to €1000. So take your pick.
Secondly when you buy AMD there is the Never Settle gaming bundle

Do i need these to play bf4 ? ÂÂ* ÂÂ*8O ÂÂ*
Well apparently the rumor was true, AMD Hawaii GPU has (supposedly) 512-bit interface and 4GB memory according to leaked photos.

AMD’s Radeon R9 290X equipped with Hawaii XT GPU is said to have at least 2560 Stream Processors. Some claim it will have 2816, which is not exactly confirmed. In fact the information we have indicates that the full Hawaii GPU will go straight to FirePro model, whereas the 2560 edition will be used with the flagship Radeon. That’s the rumor of course. I could not verify anything because AMD is very quiet about their new release.

It doesn’t take a lot of effort to count the memory modules. You can easily find sixteen 256MB modules with a total capacity of 4GB, but that’s not all, since the PCB could provide additional space on the back, with dual-sided memory, 8GB does it sound good? Nevertheless, 4GB memory size obviously suggest 512-bit memory bus.

Additionally we have a picture from Twitter where Johan Andersson (Technical Director on Frostbite at DICE) claims that he got a sample straight from AMD. If that’s true then he is in a big trouble right now. However it wouldn’t be surprising if this would be a controlled leak. Do you remember the HD 7990 leaked by… DICE?
The leaked picture of the cooler suggest it’s a blower type without much happening on the top. It actually looks like an engineering sample, rather than a actual reference design.

Those are the 9000 cards. They gave new names to it. I don't know what what is anymore,
Before announcement ,nobody knew the names so people just refer to them as the 9000 series.
I will be looking to get a 9970 or 9950. Whatever they will be called :) got around ÂÂ*300-400 euro's to spend.
Well then i sugest you get yourself a 7970 or 7990, those cards are being lowerd in price every day.
7990 goes for €469 today and will be even lower next week.

Why would I get that over a next gen? Next gen 9950 is probably faster than a 7970.
And not to fan of SLI/crossfire, it's a hassle, microstutter etc.
Once ran 2x 470's, aside from those cards having retarded powerusage, It was just a generally unsupported hassle, don't know how much of that has changed.
Still hear from people to go for a single card if possible,
and especially since I have VERY high standards when it comes to frametimes, fps and general smoothness.
That is the point NO NEXT GEN wil come out except the R9 290X. The rest is just rebrands for now.
So @ your pricerange you will get the same videocard with a new name and a higher pricetag :?: ÂÂ*:?: ÂÂ*:?: ÂÂ*:?:
All other new nextgen cards will come out later as in next year.

Aah shit, I hoped they would bring out more than those. :(
In the case of rebrands, yea I will go will a 7000. Maybe even a 2nd hand 7970 ghz,
Do you have any experience with crossfire after the new patches? And are the issues gone?
At what price will this R9 290X launch?
The R9 290x will do arround €599 @ launch.
The R9 280X is a rebrand of the 7970Ghz.
And the new 13.10 driver is already framepace fixed. Only on eyeinfinity not but that will be adressed in the upcoming driver. So crossfire is pretty smooth here.
Edit would try to get this one for a proper price:

Other than faster speed...
Whats the difference between them both?
Mean, yeah one might be faster and cheaper. But it doesn't always mean it's better, material wise it could be worse or it could last months, years less than the other.
I used to own amd graphics cards and they always seemed to stop working after a year or two of usage. In my last pc I used a nvidia gt630 for like 3-4 years and it still works but im not bothered to use it right now since i have a better card.
I'm not saying this series of amd will suck or anything, its actually quite impressive to see them get this far. But I hope you guys understand my opinion and perspective of these kind of products :P
Well mm let's see i have 2 malfunctioning GTX780's here, no matter what product you have, even a Bugatti will have mondaymorning issues.
So this whole post make no sense to me

So how much better at these cards compared to my 2 gb 6950 ?
Well if it comes to BF4 you proberbly want to have a 7000 series card or newer.
The new Mantle update that comes ot in December is not going to make a few procent difference.
But more likely 10 to 50 procent difference.
The idea behind that is basicly stolen from consoles where they need low level hardware acces to make sure games can run on it due to the fact that consoles pack a lot less powerfull hardware.
Now they make low level hardware access available on pc so BF4 with manta is going to take 100% advatnage of your hardware where directx is not cable of doing so.
That has a reason, directx needs to be multi multi multi multi compatible with all software/hardware you can find on this planet. So it is inefficient as it can be because of that.
Mantle is working with whatever developer is going to use that api and the hardware that supports it.
It is going to be open source but i think amd made the decision to release it in December. Guess what that is the month they will sell shitloads of stuff and nvidia is not going to release anything qiuckly after that because they need time to make it work on nvidia cards.
